FAMILY BOND

In pairs, discuss the importance of the time the family spends together.
What is the usual time for the family to meet every day? What do they do together? What about weekends and holidays?

Watch video Part 1 in which a family prepares for dinner. Make notes on:

• the time when the video was created
• the type of family
• the roles and tasks of each member before dinner

Now, watch Part 2. Think of the ways your typical family dinner is different from the one in the video, and write the list in your notebook. Pause the video if necessary.

Then show your list of differences to your partner and comment on them. Use some of these phrases to express contrast.
unlike/in contrast to/as opposed to/but/however/whereas
