Celebrating with people we love is something that most of us love doing. Each month in a year you have an opportunity to celebrate someone’s birthday or a wedding anniversary. There are special days honouring mothers, fathers, women and lovers. And last but not least there is one special day called Friendship day.
International Friendship Day is a day for celebrating friendship. The exchange of Friendship Day gifts, flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition on this occasion.
Friendship Day celebrations occur on different dates in different countries. On April 27, 2011 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared July 30 as official International Friendship Day.
The idea of a World Friendship Day was first proposed in 1958 by Dr. Artemio Bracho during dinner with his friends at his home in Paraguay. Out of this humble meeting of friends, the World Friendship Crusade was born.
The World Friendship Crusade is a foundation that promotes friendship and fellowship among all human beings, regardless of race, colour or religion. Today, several countries all over the world celebrate World Friendship day on July 30.
