Everyday things we take for granted – but someone had to invent them.
Everything we use had to be invented. Use different sources to prepare a speech about an invention. Record yourself. Afterwards, listen to the recording. If you notice any mistakes or shortcomings, try again. Improve your speech as much as you can.
Here are some ideas what to talk about: ear phones, clock, hair brush, can opener, deodorants, jacuzzi, lie detector, kitty litter, mousetrap, toilet paper, mirror, piggy bank, frisbee, toothpaste, remote control…
Nekatere stvari jemljemo za samoumevne – toda nekdo jih je moral izumiti. Vse, kar uporabljamo, je nekdo izumil. Z uporabo raznih virov pripravi govorni nastop o nekem izumu. Posnemi se, nato se poslušaj. Če opaziš napake ali pomanjkljivosti, poskusi ponovno. Kolikor se le da, izboljšaj svoj govorni nastop.

In class, listen to presentations. Decide on the invention you find the most/the least important, interesting, unusual, useful etc. Explain your reasons, using because.
Example:
Inventing blue jeans is important because it influenced the way we dress.
V razredu poslušajte predstavitve. Odločite se, kateri izum se vam zdi najbolj/najmanj pomemben, zanimiv, nenavaden, uporaben ipd. Pojasnite svoje mnenje, pri čemer uporabite 'because'.
Inventing chewing gum may be fun, but do you know which are the most important inventions for mankind? Plow or the wheel? Television or the computer? Read the list of some important inventions and choose EIGHT you think had the biggest impact on our lives. Explain your choice.
Izum žvečilnega gumija se zdi zabaven, toda ali veš, kateri so najpomembnejši izumi za človeštvo? Plug ali kolo? Televizija ali računalnik? Preberi seznam nekaterih pomembnih izumov in jih izberi 8, za katere meniš, da so najbolj vplivali na naša življenja. Pojasni svojo izbiro.
In pairs, try to imagine what would life be like without the inventions listed in the previous exercise. Make sentences as in the examples.
