What is netiquette? Listen to the definition and complete the text.

Netiquette (net + etiquette) means online etiquette. The word etiquette means rules of good behaviour that are commonly viewed as appropriate. Netiquette helps avoid misunderstandings in the email and Internet communication. These can happen easier online than in {face-to-face;face_to_face} interaction because the receiver of the message does not get the visual clues such as facial expressions, gestures and voice.

Rank the netiquette rules below according to their importance (1 = most, 7 = least). Compare your ranking with your peers.

Don’t post copyrighted material. It’s stealing. Always ask for permission.
If you are using quotes, always add the name of the source and the link to it.

Respect other people’s time.
Don’t expect people will answer your questions immediately. They have their own lives to follow. Give them some time.
In emails, direct the message only to the people that it concerns. Don’t simply click "Reply All."
Check your spelling and grammar so that people don’t waste time struggling to understand what you wanted to say.
Keep your messages short and concise.
Don’t forward chain letters.

Respect other people’s privacy.
Don’t forward their personal emails or post online their words or photos. But if you really want to, always ask for permission first.

Don’t hurt other people’s feelings.
Use polite language and don’t use rude words. You don’t want to offend anyone online.
Don’t use capital letter for words. They mean SCREAMING. And you don’t want to scream at people to offend them.
Use emoticons to help communicate your emotions and avoid misunderstandings. Or use common acronyms (LOL, etc.).

Show understanding.
Forgive newbies for their mistakes. If a forum message is badly spelt or the answer is not correct, understand that maybe that’s the best they could do. But if you want to react, send them a private email to point out the problem.

Contribute things that have value.
Don’t just publish things for the sake of publishing. Take time and write something that really has value to people.
Before you participate in a forum or other online space, look around, lurk a bit, and see what it contains and how people communicate there. Perhaps what you want to contribute is already published.

Keep your smart phone off the table.
At school, meetings or on a date, don’t leave your mobile devices on the table. It’s not polite. You can always check your texts, tweets and emails later.
