Dog runs are some of the best places in town to watch the New Yorkers socialise, have fun, and flirt with each other. Dog owners at the Sirius dog run in Battery Park can watch their canine friends frolic in the fountain and play with new furry friends or they can look out towards the water and catch a glimpse of other New Yorkers looking in at them.

Take the train to Coney Island and watch who gets on and off and what they do. Smell the strong whiff of perfume from Mexican teenagers speaking Spanglish and chatting about school. Or watch the middle-age man buried in the new Babe Ruth biography . On the train, you can watch the ethnicities change, and the reading material - from cookbooks to comics, bird watching to Bibles. Are the sad and glum looking faces always that sad, or are the people just having a really bad day?

However, the ultimate people watching spot must be the meatpacking district where you see what today's trendy young New Yorkers are wearing or not as the case may be! Just because the weather is getting colder, that doesn't mean that they will dress up in warm clothes. One great lookout is an outdoor table in one of the restaurants on West 12th Street. Here you are right at the centre of the action. So many stories unfold right in front of your eyes. Enjoy!
Finally, after a busy day of people watching it is time to go home. But remember: It is four to a cab. Don't swear! Don't make a scene ! New York is watching you.
