CLASS SURVEY

Here are some guidelines on how to do a class survey:

1. Write your questions
Think what you want to find out with your survey. For example, the age when teenagers should start helping in the house, the list of chores they should do, the number of hours per week they should help, etc. Then write a few questions. Make sure they are specific and easy to understand. You can offer the answers for your classmates to tick.
Example:

At what age should teenagers start helping around the house?
a) before the age of 11
b) 11-14
c) 15-19
d) after the age of 19
e) never

2. Design the survey
Put your questions in a logical order and write simple and clear instructions. Use a simple layout.

3. Distribute the survey
Distribute your survey to your classmates. You can do this in person or by email.

4. Analyse the answers
When you have collected the surveys, you can count the answers and look for patterns in them. Are the results surprising, interesting, expected, or unexpected? What do the answers mean?

You can create surveys online. There are many free tools. If you have a Google account, you can use Google Forms which is easy to use. Here are the steps:
- Log in with your Google account.
- In the menu, pick ‘Form' and follow the program through the steps of picking the theme (the look of your survey), title and type of questions, writing the questions, and finally publishing the survey.
- You will get a link to your survey which you can send to your classmates.
- When you have collected the answers, the program automatically creates charts.

I think in our family it is mom who does most of the housework. She is always very busy tidying up and dusting things. I don't like dusting and luckily I don’t have to do it because I’m allergic to dust - so that’s one good thing about being allergic. Ha, ha.

My brother and me, we have to make our beds every day, mom insists on this. And we have to vacuum our rooms every Saturday, which I reeeeally hate. It’s so noisy, I can’t stand that noise. So I put some loud music on when I do it.

Dad doesn’t do much cleaning and tidying, but he cooks a lot. And he cooks well. He prepares most meals, also when he and mom invite friends for dinner. He likes to play in the kitchen and experiment with exotic foods and spices and stuff. So we often eat sushi and tempura and tortillas. But you don’t want to see the kitchen after he’s finished - it looks like a natural disaster. Who cleans it? Mom, of course. But she doesn’t complain much because all her friends’ husbands can't cook, so she’s proud of dad, in a way, and tolerates his mess. My brother and I have to empty the dishwasher, which is boring. But you have to admit that it is still better than loading it with dirty dishes.

Dad likes to work outdoors and do things like mowing the lawn and washing the car while my mom is sunbathing.
